Health Economist & Methodologist - Oxford – Up to £50k Salary D.o.E

The Role
Main Functional Responsibilities:

To support the development of economic models to inform decisions on the efficient allocation of resources available to healthcare providers and communicating these insights to a variety of stakeholders.

Plan and undertake economic modelling to structure the evidence from the literature and other sources on clinical and economic outcomes to provide results that inform decisions about clinical practices and health-care resource allocations.

Assess evaluation scenarios and identify and apply appropriate analytical techniques and methodologies to deliver the desired outcome for the relevant audience.

Develop protocols that support specific projects across a variety of clinical, patient and care pathways.
Success in this role translates into the delivery of health innovation projects within the Strategic and Industry Partnerships Programme specifically around the real-world evaluation workstreams of the programme.
The post-holder will be expected to support innovators and industry partners whose technologies, products and services could improve outcomes in the NHS.
Support could take the shape of early customer discovery; early value assessment or through formal real world evaluation assessing pathway and service improvements; workforce and patient experience and most critically economic impact of implementation.
You
Essential Criteria:

Educated to MSc level or equivalent in Economics, Health Economics or a closely related discipline, or equivalent research, industrial or commercial experience.

Ability to develop budget impact models in MS Excel from scratch and understanding of economic evaluation methods.

Computer literate with a good knowledge of different computer programmes with experience in data presentation and analyses.

Ability to prioritise and organise own work in response to deadlines with minimal supervision.

Plans and implements new ways of working, facilitating collaborative working across the health economic team.

Ability to find creative solutions to problems.
-
Proficient in the use of other Microsoft products and also specialist software packages relevant to the role.

Able to drive across the Health Innovation Oxford & Thames Valley region.

Willingness to travel within the United Kingdom to conduct research and attend conferences.

Able to handle complex information and elicit key points for discussion and presentation.

Ability to build effective partnerships, common purpose and shared understanding across a range of diverse and competing views.

Ability to communicate effectively with industry, service providers, commissioners, clinical, academic and all levels of staff.

Ability to carry out economic evaluations – modelling.

Ability to provide and receive highly complex information and to overcome barriers to understanding.

Ability to conduct a detailed review of literature.

Strategic thinking - ability to think creatively and to anticipate and resolve problems before they arise.
Desirable Criteria:

Demonstrate evidence of continuing professional development.

Experience in qualitative and quantitative research, including interviewing, and knowledge of appropriate research techniques.

Ability to navigate the NHS to reach the relevant network of health professionals and procurement bodies and functions.

Experience of using statistical packages such as STATA.

Understanding of Machine Learning/Artificial Intelligence.

Actively contribute to health economics team, and presence through posters, abstracts.

Excellent oral, written, and presentation communication skills.

Knowledge and experience of the application of alternative decision frameworks

Use of real-world data and outcomes research Proven mixed methods evaluations (qualitative and quantitative methods) research skills.

Willingness to develop methodologies to evaluate medical devices and technologies.

Demonstrable commitment to and focus on quality, promotes high standards to consistently improve patient outcomes.

History of working well in teams. Works across boundaries, looks for collective success, listens, involves, respects and learns from the contribution of others.

Good computer skills including building a decision tree, Markov model and perform sensitivity analysis in Microsoft excel.
